Recap of the fifth round of Euroleague action while focusing on the first coaching changes which have been made plus their respective impacts on the clubs (00:02:44). #05.1: Euroleague Mega Round and most impactful players so far (Part 01)

With so much basketball going on in the past days we've actually had to split Episode #05 into two parts.
Part 1 is all about the EuroLeague Mega Round (3&4) which has taken place from Oct. 17th to 20th.
At the very beginning, Matej and Simon have a discussion regarding an article in "The Athletic" and the situation of bio-banding in sports (00:00:33). After that they recap the current Euroleague action with all the highlights and storylines (00:07:46). Starting off with Barcelona's hot start (00:09:00), a surprisingly struggling Bayern Munich (00:14:35) before moving on to a so far underwhelming Baskonia team (00:20:30). Next they'll talk about Zalgiris Kaunas excellent start (00:23:23) and the red-hot Los Blancos from Madrid (00:26:47).
After a short break, Matej and Simon move on to the trio of Emporio Armani Milano, Olympiakos Pireus, Partizan Belgrade (00:32:03) before moving on to Fenerbahçe Istanbuls (00:44:28) and discussing the current situation at ASVEL (00:50:22) - SPOILER: they ended up making changes on the coaching bench after this podcast was recorded.
Up next, the second team from Istanbul, Anadolu Efes (00:54:10) finally getting their first wins of the season and the very tough situation which is Maccabi Tel Aviv currently facing (00:59:23). After that, they give their thoughts on AS Monaco and Crvena Zvezda (01:04:17), talk about the surprisingly good start of Virtus Bologna (01:11:00) and the less surprisingly bad start of ALBA Berlin (01:15:03). Starting the season as early favourites, Panathinaikos Athens is already under pressure (01:18:00). Lastly, Valencia Basket is making quite an impression in it's first games so far (01:22:16).
Wrapping up this weeks Euroleague action, Matej and Simon discuss their most impactful players so far (01:25:17).

First, Matej and Simon recap the second round of Euroleague action with all the highlights and storylines that have been played earlier in the week discussing Anadolu Efes Istanbul vs. Real Madrid (00:01:44) first, then moving on to the ALBA Berlin vs. Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz matchup and also discuss Germany becoming a steady nurturing ground for European talents (00:04:35), ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne being demolished by Partizan Belgrade (00:09:20) as well as the matchup of early playoff contenders between Panathinaikos Athens vs. Bayern Munich (00:15:50).
After the break they take you through the second half of Round 2 with all the games from Friday October 13th. A very one-dimensioned contest in AS Monaco vs. Virtus Bologna (00:22:26), the surprising win of Zalgiris Kaunas vs. Crvena Zvezda Belgrade (00:27:51), the very intense encounter in Athens between two European powerhouses in Olympiakos Pireus vs. FC Barcelona (00:33:50) and finishing it off with their break down of Valencia Basket vs. Fenerbahçe Istanbul (00:40:37).
Wrapping up this weeks Euroleague Matej and Simon engage in a still way too early Euroleague MVP debate about which players need to have more spotlight on them (00:46:26).
There's also a sneak preview ahead of the start of the NBA season 2023/24 and what teams they most look forward to see in action (00:53:15).
Finishing off Episode 4, Matej and Simon discuss the, as expected, candid Zlatan Ibrahimovic interview with Piers Morgan and the fine line between confidence in his own abilities and arrogance (00:59:04).

Round 1 of the Euroleague season 2023/24 is in the books as Matej and Simon review all the highlights and storylines of the recent matchups.
First, they take you through Thursdays matchups from October 5th starting with Crvena Zvezda Belgrade vs. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne (00:02:35), the highly anticipated game Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Partizan Belgrade (00:07:42), taking a deep-dive into the matchup FC Barcelona vs. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (00:12:23), talking about the German derby Bayern Munich vs. ALBA Berlin (00:23:05) as well as the great comeback story in Virtus Bologna vs. Zalgiris Kaunas (00:30:42)
After the break they take you through the second half of Round 1 with all the games from Friday October 6th. A tight contest between Fenerbahçe Istanbul vs. Emporio Armani Milano (00:35:20), the great greek derby Panathinaikos Athens vs. Olympiakos Pireus (00:40:16). After that, they move to Spain to discuss Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz vs. Real Madrid (00:52:00) and finishing it off with their break down of Valencia Basket vs. AS Monaco (00:57:34). Rounding it up with a sneak preview of Round 2 (01:02:00).
After so much Basketball talk, it is time to switch the field as Matej has some takes on the recent UEFA Champions League Round 2 and what teams are already on the brink of missing the knock-out phase (01:06:38).
Finishing off Episode 3, Simon gives some of his thoughts about the love for European football in Australia as well as having his take on the World Cup 2023 that has been taking place in Australia and New Zealand (01:21:12).
